The TB Specialist Nurse plays a vital role in Public Health, focusing on the prevention, management and control of TB within the community & in-patient setting. They will coordinate a nurse-led Tuberculosis (TB) prevention & management service; providing contact tracing, raising awareness, risk assessment and screening and where appropriate; vaccination for TB and referral of Latent TB patients to the wider TB service, for treatment. Responsibilities
* Responsible for providing clinical management and professional leadership in the delivery and development of the TB service in partnership with the multidisciplinary team.
* Act as a resource for nursing colleagues and other health workers by offering expert care, advice and support as needed.
* Provide education on a multidisciplinary basis and also to external agencies i.e. Other Trusts.
* Implement, with other members of the multi-professional team, a research and audit programme of the respiratory service.
Skills and Qualifications
* Registered General Nurse live on Part 1 of NMC Register with a degree and 3 years post registration experience within a Respiratory/General Medicine setting
* OR Have 5 years post -registration experience as a Band 5 including 3 years in a Respiratory or acute medical setting and have obtained a post-graduate qualification in Nursing.
* Or Have 5 years post-registration experience which must include a minimum of 2 years at Band 6 in a respiratory or acute medical setting.
* Or Have a relevant degree plus 3 years post registration experience in screening or management of patients with infectious diseases.
* Or 5 years post-registration experience in screening or management of patients with infectious diseases.
* Or 2 years’ experience at Band 6 or above in screening or management of patients with infectious diseases.
* Registered Adult Nurse on Part 1 of the live NMC Register.
* Completed respiratory short course or completed Specialist Practice or be willing to undertake within 18 months of appointment.
* Completed Non-Medical Prescribing or be willing to undertake within 2 years of appointment.
* Provide evidence of continuous personal and professional development
* Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment.
* This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
