About the role
We’re looking for a Procurement Operations and Systems Lead to join our Procurement team at NFU Mutual. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in shaping how we manage our procurement systems and reporting capability to deliver value, mitigate risk and support responsible business practices.
Reporting to the Procurement Governance Manager, you’ll oversee the day-to-day management of our procurement operations and lead a small team of two. You’ll take ownership of procurement systems development, and the production of insightful management information that drives strategic decision-making across the business.
In addition, you’ll lead reporting on key procurement KPIs, present MI and risk updates in team meetings, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, control and compliance. The role also offers the chance to get involved in broader initiatives such as social enterprise and modern slavery activity, supporting NFU Mutual’s commitment to responsible and ethical procurement.
Key Responsibilities
4. Lead the management and development of procurement operations and systems, ensuring compliance with policy and alignment to business needs.
5. Build and maintain effective supplier relationships, ensuring strong communication, performance management and continuous improvement.
6. Lead and support a small team of two, fostering development and encouraging a collaborative, high-performing environment.
7. Produce, analyse and present MI, KPI and risk reports, providing insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
8. Support the SOTP policy and related governance processes, ensuring effective control of acquisition costs and risks.
9. Identify, evaluate and deliver system and process improvements to enhance functionality and compliance.
10. Manage third-party risk activities, including FSQS and material/outsourcing risk monitoring.
11. Contribute to ESG-related procurement activities, including the potential to support supplier diversity and anti-modern slavery initiatives.
12. Deliver short-term or one-off projects as required, ensuring outcomes are achieved to agreed standards.
About you
You’ll bring a balance of operational leadership, systems expertise and experience. You’ll be comfortable leading a small team, working collaboratively across the business, and using MI and reporting to drive insight and improvement.
Essential skills and experience:
13. Strong procurement background, ideally within indirect or service categories.
14. Proven ability to analyse and present management information, KPIs and risk data.
15. Deep understanding of procurement systems, including upgrades and process enhancements.
16. Demonstrable experience of leading and developing a small team.
17. Knowledge of procurement processes and policies
Desirable skills:
18. MCIPS qualification (or working towards).
19. Degree-level education or equivalent experience.
20. Experience supporting supplier diversity or anti-modern slavery initiatives.
