Principal Civil Engineer role:
* You will report directly to the RDL, and your role will be to provide superior quality Engineering Design services to allow the company to minimise risks and maximise profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts. You will co-ordinate the design and produce design documents and drawings taking due account of health and safety requirements, specifications and standards pertaining to the contract.
Principal Civil Engineer responsibilities:
* Develop design layouts that are cost-effective, comply with specifications, and can be efficiently constructed and commissioned. "Cost-effective" encompasses all associated costs, including design time, materials, erection, and any impact on other disciplines.
* Promote the use of standard practices wherever possible, maintain competitiveness, and provide estimates and feedback to the Proposals department.
* Follow established procedures and processes to support the ongoing development of the department.
* Contribute to the development, monitoring, and review of departmental procedures and processes.
* Write, update, and maintain efficient procedures to ensure smooth departmental operations.
* Ensure design coordination with all other disciplines, both internal and external to MWHT, to optimise project outcomes.
* Maintain comprehensive files and records throughout the duration of contracts.
* Ensure customer satisfaction by working within a culture that recognises customers—internal or external—as central to achieving objectives.
* Maintain a personal development plan and actively participate in supervising and developing staff.
* Support a safe working environment for all personnel.
* Minimise waste in all departmental activities.
* Ensure designs consider environmental impacts and fully comply with all health and safety requirements.
Principal Civil Engineer requirements:
* Solid understanding of the principles of water and sewage treatment.
* Experience in managing or mentoring staff in the design of relevant aspects of water and sewage treatment plants.
* Membership of a professional institution, either chartered or approaching chartership.
* Educational qualifications: Civil Engineering HND minimum; Civil Engineering degree preferred.
* Ability to rationalise designs and produce cost-effective plant layouts.
* Broad knowledge of all aspects of water treatment, including mechanical, process, electrical engineering, and project management.
* Flexible and analytical, capable of assimilating large volumes of diverse data.
* Strong communication skills, able to present technical proposals clearly, confidently, and persuasively.
* Full driving license.
