A unique opportunity exists for an Instrument/Electrical Engineer in our fast-paced R&D environment. Your multi-skilled role at Johnson Matthey will include designing, commissioning, and optimising pilot plants and bespoke process development equipment, as well as site utility & infrastructure assets, spanning multiple Business Units across Teesside.
Significant investment is ongoing within the R&D business to expand our capability and transform our operations, focusing on constructing new assets & upgrading existing ones. Your responsibilities:
* Designing and preparing innovative specifications for bespoke Research Engineering equipment to support research and manufacturing programmes.
* Ensuring equipment designs meet site and statutory standards.
* Identifying solutions to complex design problems and improving the effectiveness and reliability of research engineering equipment.
* Preparing test methods and schedules for compliance testing, including safety inspections, to meet safety policies and legislative guidelines.
* Diagnosing and troubleshooting equipment performance issues and working with customers to develop efficient solutions.
* Carrying out and approving safety-critical design calculations, ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and policies.
* Collaborating with project teams, technicians, and customers during installation, commissioning, modification, and troubleshooting.
* Specifying and procuring equipment to support projects, maintenance, and repairs, managing project budgets around £100K.
Requirements for the role:
* HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent in Engineering or Design.
* Knowledge of instrumentation and electrical design.
* Understanding of process safety management frameworks.
* Ability to resolve E&I plant problems safely and manage workload independently.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Focus on delivering results within critical timescales and ability to work under pressure.
