Job Summary
As the Royal Air Force (RAF) Deputy Corporate STRAP and Special Access Programme (SAP) Security Officer (Dep Corporate STRAPSO/SAPSO), you will be responsible to the RAF Principal Security Advisor (PSyA), through the Corporate STRAPSO/SAPSO, for the safeguarding of STRAP and SAP material, facilities and assets across the RAF. STRAP is a regime that regulates access to sensitive intelligence material which requires more protective handling than is afforded by the standard arrangements for government assets, whilst SAP is a MOD-owned bounded topic area related to sensitive military capabilities, vulnerabilities, research and development (R&D) or science and technology (S&T) programmes, projects or activity that strictly reinforces the ‘need to know’ principle beyond that afforded by the standard security classifications.
You will be responsible for enforcing STRAP policy and processes and providing assurance of compliance to Cabinet Office standards. Similarly, but within different Governance structures and risk appetites, you will be responsible for the enforcing of SAP policy and processes and providing assurance and compliance to Air and MOD.
As a member of the HQ Air PSyA you will be principally located at Headquarters Air Command; however, you will be required to infrequently travel to RAF establishments across the United Kingdom. You will also routinely liaise with the wider MOD and Government STRAPSO/SAPSO community, where you will represent the RAF as the Service deputy and subject matter expert.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job Description
* Providing advice to the Chain of Command, especially Air Cap, 1 & 2 Groups, through the SSRC (AOC 11 Gp) on all STRAP security matters. In addition, provide advice to all 2* Business Areas, but particularly SAP Compartment Owners (SCO) in Air Cap (and SPECAP) related to the security of SAP information and capabilities.
* As the deputy for all matters relating to the security for STRAP & SAP within Air, including certification of facilities and Personnel Security assurance, engage with stakeholders ensuring Air is securing STRAP and SAP assets in accordance with respective policy requirements.
* Support the development and maintenance of the HQ Air STRAP directives, compliance, and policies derived from Cabinet Office policy, and support the development and maintenance of the HQ Air SAP directives, compliance and policies based on HQ Air risk appetite, and MOD policy.
* As an Air representative for STRAP & SAP security, you will be required to represent Air at during Working Groups with external stakeholders and supporting the lead for STRAP and SAP security advice at 2* Governance Boards within Air.
* Support the development and operational delivery of the HQ Air STRAP & SAP Security Strategy and Directives respectively.
* Assure Air Capability Programme Boards and processes, providing STRAP & SAP advice and direction to Senior Responsible Owners (1*).
* Deputise for the Corporate STRAP/SAPSO as the Air authority for the certification of STRAP Certified Areas (SCAs) & SAP Facilities (SAPFs).
* Direct the assurance of security inspections of Air SCAs & SAPFs, reporting findings as required.
* Oversee and assure compliance with delegated risk appetite for all STRAP applications and oversee and assure SAP applications on behalf of SCOs and Dir Capability. Monitor and assure the continued suitability of STRAP & SAP applicants and those inducted alongside PSyA Personnel Security and Counter-Intelligence teams.
* Manage all security investigations related to STRAP & SAP, and implement recommendations, including oversight of resulting remedial actions or sanctions.

Person specification
We are looking for an organised and proactive individual who is looking for a challenging role supporting the security function of the Royal Air Force. You will need to have good time management skills and able to work independently in a fast-moving environment, while working effectively within the team. You will need to be good at collaborating with various stakeholders across the business.
A good level of IT skills and the ability to interrogate and provide analysis from information presented, when required. The role is varied, wide ranging with opportunities to learn and develop personally and professionally in a supportive environment.
This post requires British nationality (some dual nationals may be ineligible) and Developed Vetting clearance. You will also need to undergo additional security clearance checks, with the offer of employment being conditional on obtaining all necessary security clearances. There are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries once in post.
