Overview of the role
Working under the direction of the Head of Operational Function, the post holder will be deployed to various roles to provide strategic support. The main purpose is to support the Head of LDU Cluster by providing management and leadership within the National Probation Service (NPS) Local Delivery Unit (LDU). The role involves representing the LDU with external agencies and staff, adhering to policies on sensitive information, and participating in out-of-hours on-call rotations.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead on operational issues such as caseload segmentation, including Child Sexual Exploitation, Guns and Gangs, and Integrated Offender Management.
* Support the Head of Cluster with operational tasks, including handling high-risk cases, grievances, disciplinary actions, and performance management.
* Oversee professional development, recruitment, and induction of staff within the cluster.
* Lead on performance, quality assurance, audits, and inspections.
* Support reviews and delivery of action plans related to serious incidents and reviews.
* Manage administrative functions and represent the NPS in local strategic partnerships, including MAPPA.
* Make decisions and provide advice in the absence of the Head of LDU Cluster, including offender management decisions such as recall to prison.
* Handle complaints and lead specific projects on divisional or cluster-wide initiatives, including Equality and Diversity.
* Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and oversee estate management.
* Demonstrate pro-social behavior and carry out safeguarding duties according to statutory responsibilities.
Qualifications and Knowledge
Applicants should possess a qualification recognized under Section 10 of the Offender Management Act 2007, such as a Diploma in Probation Studies, Social Work, or CQSW, or a relevant degree like a Graduate Diploma/Honours in Community Justice with Level 5 Diploma in Probation Practice. Knowledge of the criminal justice system is essential.
