Hampshire Music Service is seeking passionate and experienced conductors to lead one of our prestigious County Ensembles. These roles offer a unique opportunity to inspire and develop young musicians within a vibrant and supportive musical community. We are currently recruiting for conductors for the Hampshire County Training Band, Hampshire County Training Choir, Hampshire County Show Choir, and the Hampshire County Double Reed Ensemble. Each ensemble has a dedicated weekly or monthly rehearsal schedule and performs three times annually, providing a platform for musical excellence and personal growth.

Ensembles provide an important role within Hampshire Music Education Hub. Our ensembles are highly regarded locally, nationally, and internationally. As a County Ensemble Conductor, you will be responsible for rehearsing and training your ensemble to a high musical standard, directing performances, and collaborating with fellow ensemble directors to create enriching musical experiences. You will play a key role in shaping the musical journey of our young performers, ensuring that rehearsals are engaging, inclusive, and progressive. Your leadership will help maintain the high standards for which Hampshire Music Service is known, both locally and beyond.

What you’ll do:
* Training and rehearsal the ensemble to a high musical standard
* Directing the ensemble in three performances across the academic year.
* Working alongside other HMS ensemble directors in shared performances, workshops and opportunities to develop close links that enable progression routes for pupils.
* Attending meetings of ensemble staff as appropriate.
* Ensure that the policies and requirements of HMS and HCC are met regarding health and safety, GDPR, and safeguarding.
* Attend rehearsals in time before members arrive, and leave after they have been collected, delegating this role if/as necessary.
* Being fully accountable for the musical standards and outcomes of the ensemble
* Ensure effective administration, in line with HMS processes, in all aspects of their ensemble.
* Deputise for members of staff if required.
What we’re looking for:
* Strong experience of conducting youth ensembles is highly desirable.
* Ability to programme appropriate repertoire that enables excellent engagement and progression from all members of the ensemble.
* A strong understanding of the role that the ensemble has to support the technical and musical development of its members.
* Have the musical expertise to interpret, rehearse, and deliver authentic and credible performances of repertoire appropriate to the standard of this ensemble and require a highly analytical and
* knowledgeable approach. This needs to be carefully balanced with strong interpersonal skills that will inspire a large group of young musicians.
* Experience of working with young musicians within an ensemble setting, including the management of residential visits and overseas tours.
* The ability to cope well under pressure.
We are looking for individuals with strong experience in conducting youth ensembles, a deep understanding of musical development, and the ability to select and interpret repertoire that challenges and excites. You should be confident in managing rehearsals, performances, and the administrative responsibilities that come with the role. Excellent communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to safeguarding and inclusivity are essential.

Monthly, Sunday 3:00–5:00, Barton Peveril College, Eastleigh
