Clinical Governance Lead Radiographer

Are you a radiographer with a keen attention to detail and a passion for continual improvement? We are seeking an experienced radiographer to lead and develop our clinical governance activities at Darlington Memorial Hospital. The post holder will drive and expand our existing programme, innovate best‑practice solutions, and ensure safe, high‑quality clinical care across our sites, which include Bishop Auckland and Sedgefield.
As part of the team you will be required to participate in a 24/7 shift rota (days, long days and nights). You will act as a senior radiographer, leading and managing the department’s clinical governance agenda, and fostering a strong team culture where radiographers support one another.
Main duties of the job
The role involves diagnostic radiography using complex equipment while maintaining the highest technical standards. You will liaise with all associated radiology staff, promote efficient service delivery, and ensure adherence to radiation safety (IRMER) protocols. Key responsibilities include:
* Undertaking, coordinating, and monitoring clinical governance and quality assurance activities.
* Planning and initiating efficient work practices to meet changing organisational needs.
* Setting up and maintaining quality assurance protocols for complex equipment within your specialist area.
* Providing day‑to‑day oversight of IRMER related tasks, ensuring audit activities are planned and executed consistently.
* Maintaining a high professional and technical standard of work and ensuring compliance with radiation protection standards.
* Leading the IRMER agenda, attending radiation safety working groups and ensuring incident and complaint management.
* Participating in the out‑of‑hours service provision and promoting continuous professional development.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites – Darlington Memorial Hospital and the University Hospital of North Durham – along with community care centres throughout North Durham. Job responsibilities
Working within professional guidelines, you will set and maintain the highest technical standard of work. Your responsibilities extend to:
* Leading and delivering high‑quality clinical service within your section and managing day‑to‑day operations.
* Communicating complex instructions to patients, adapting techniques as required.
* Developing and maintaining departmental protocols and quality control procedures.
* Supervising junior staff, students and assistant practitioners, including conducting appraisals.
* Ensuring safety and compliance with radiation protection standards.
* Promoting teamwork, involving staff in clinical governance activities, and operating the out‑of‑hours service.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MSc, BSc or DCR Radiography
* Minimum of 2 years post‑registration experience
Experience
* High level of competence & experience in managing people
* Excellent knowledge of Clinical Governance and QA programmes
* Audit and benchmarking experience
* RPS Trained
Statutory Registration
* HCPC registration
Special Skills and Knowledge
* Committed to efficient work practices and clinical governance
* Experience leading change and protocol development

* High quality radiographic skills
* Participation in out‑of‑hours duties

The post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, and a DBS check will be required.
£38,682 to £46,580 per annum, pro‑rata.
