Role: Quality Engineer - NPI
Location: Wolverhampton
Salary: c£45k (Depending on experience)
Position Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Quality Engineer with a strong specialism in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) tools and techniques. The successful candidate will play a critical role in driving the development and introduction of new products, ensuring that best practices in New Product Development, and Introduction (NPD/NPI) are implemented effectively across projects. This position requires a proactive individual who can work independently and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and operational success.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities:
* Lead the NPI process from concept through to production, ensuring adherence to APQP methodologies.
* Collaborate with cross functional teams to develop and implement project plans, timelines, and deliverables.
* Utilize APQP tools such as Process Flow Diagrams, FMEA, Control Plans, PPAP and Gantt Charts to ensure robust product development.
* Conduct risk assessments and implement appropriate mitigation strategies throughout the NPI process.
* Facilitate Design Reviews and ensure compliance with customer specifications and industry standards.
* Validate manufacturing processes to ensure they are capable of producing products that meet quality specifications consistently.
* Drive continuous improvement activities, identifying areas for enhancement and implementing best practices in NPD processes.
* Monitor project performance and provide regular updates to stakeholders regarding progress, challenges, and solutions.
* Conduct training and mentorship for team members on APQP tools and NPD best practices.
* Evaluate and approve suppliers and their processes, ensuring that materials and components meet quality standards.
* Develop and oversee testing protocols, including functional, performance, and reliability testing, to verify that products meet quality requirements.
* Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company policies related to product quality and safety.
* Foster a culture of quality and excellence within the organization through effective communication and collaboration.
Key Skills:
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
* Proven experience as an NPI Engineer or in a similar role with a focus on APQP methodologies.
* Strong understanding of NPD processes and best practices.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and drive improvements in product quality and process efficiency.
* Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
* Proficiency in relevant software tools and applications related to NPI and quality planning.
* Ideally has knowledge, and understanding of FMEA, and Control Plans
