Design Manager – Inverness
An opportunity has arisen for a Design Manager to join our team at Morrison Construction. Ideally, you will be based in or around the Inverness area and may need to travel across multiple sites/projects in the Highland Region.
What you will be doing
* Managing relationships with clients, subcontractors, project and design teams for the efficient development and delivery of designs on a project or bid.
* Leading the design process in accordance with our Building Management System.
* Applying and monitoring compliance with CDM 2015 and the principle of prevention and safety in design.
* Identifying and mitigating design risk and realizing opportunities through all stages of a bid or project.
* Assisting in the selection of designers for a project and ensuring competency checks are undertaken.
* Defining the scope and responsibilities for consultants and inviting fees for the compilation and management of the project fee schedule.
* Developing the design programme in conjunction with the design team and managing, monitoring, and reporting on Information Release Schedules and the progress and quality of design deliverables in line with programme requirements.
* Managing statutory and third‑party processes such as Planning, Building Control, and BREEAM.
* Reviewing and liaising with the design team and designers to ensure the design is fully coordinated, with sequencing and buildability considered.
* Liaising with internal and external information managers to ensure all information is named and filed correctly in accordance with our Building Management System and industry best practice.
* Undertaking site inspections to assist the site‑based team in ensuring the as‑built product meets design criteria.
About You
* Experience and knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations.
* Experience and knowledge of the requirements of the Scottish Technical Standards.
* Awareness of health and safety responsibilities and adherence to company policies.
* Able to read and interpret design and construction programmes.
* Understanding of buildability and willingness to challenge designs that do not meet sequencing or construction methodology.
* Analytical with advanced problem‑solving skills.
* Ability to review British Standards and consider practical applications.
* Able to develop ideas and present them concisely.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage senior stakeholders.
* Able to demonstrate commercial acumen and manage the design change process.
