Job Title: School Caretaker
Area: Essex sites (Chelmsford centre & Town)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: 3-6 Month Fixed Term Contract
Salary: £40,000 per annum (pro rata)
Working Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
About the school:
A well-established independent special school in Essex supporting children with social, emotional and mental health needs. The school provides a nurturing setting focused on care, safety and wellbeing.
About the role:
The caretaker will ensure the school buildings and grounds are well-maintained, secure and compliant with health and safety standards. Duties include routine maintenance, managing contractors, site security, and supporting daily operations.
We’re looking for a dedicated candidate to:
1. Carry out general repairs, maintenance and minor improvements
2. Ensure the premises are clean, safe and secure at all times
3. Conduct regular health and safety checks
4. Oversee site access, deliveries and contractors
5. Support with setting up rooms and site operations
Requirements –
The ideal candidate would have:
6. Previous experience as a caretaker or site manager (preferably in a school)
7. Strong understanding of health and safety procedures
8. Practical maintenance and DIY skills
9. Good communication and organisational skills
10. Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply
