Job Description

To provide care and support to both adults and children with autism and/or learning disabilities who exhibit a variety of behaviours that cause concern. To lead the team around the adult or child, Keywork the individual and provide supervision and other support measures to the team.

Requirements

This post is considered to be a ‘Regulated Role’ under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act. Under the Act it is a legal requirement for an individual undertaking a regulated role with children or protected adults to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.

Therefore the successful candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to any formal offer of employment being made by Moray Council.

Responsibilities

1. To provide direct support and Keywork service users who display behaviour that causes concern. Working as a team to manage the behaviour and to enable them to participate in a wide range of activities in the community to support social inclusion.
2. To support and be a keyworker to adults within their own home in the local community, accessing community facilities and enabling them to maintain their tenancy.
3. To support and be a keyworker to children living at home, supporting them to reach their potential, be part of their community and maintain family relationships.
4. To support and be a keyworker to children and young people living in residential care supporting them to reach their potential, be part of their community and maintain family relationships.
5. To provide support and supervision to support workers within the service.
6. To uphold social work values and to ensure good working practice including understanding and awareness of health and safety.
7. To promote the independence and develop the skills of service users and assist with all tasks necessary to ensure positive life experiences and maintain their tenancy.
8. To work positively with other agencies, parents, support workers, and other services to ensure a quality provision of care for service users.
9. To ensure that the living environment of the service users is clean and appropriate to meet each individual’s needs.
10. To participate in regular and ongoing training relevant to the needs of the service users.

The Individual

11. Previous experience in completing Keyworker responsibilities
12. Previous experience in working in Social care
13. Willingness to undertake HSC SVQ level 3 & PDA in supervision (adults) CYP SVQ level 4
14. Willingness to undertake further training as required.
15. Registration with the SSSC once in post
16. Effective Practical Skills
17. Effective Observational Skills
18. Flexibility, Empathy and Approachability.
19. Ability to work as part of a team.
20. Experience of community participation
21. Knowledge of Microsoft Office
22. Previous experience in a supervisory role.
23. Experience of working in social care
24. A resilient and assertive nature
25. Ability to remain calm in a crisis
26. Ability to reflect on own professional practice
27. Knowledge of Social Care Values.
28. To understand your own feelings about being challenged
29. Knowledge of Social Care Values.
30. Knowledge Health & Social care values
31. Ability to form positive relationships with service users, colleagues, parents, guardians and other professionals.
32. Sensitivity and understanding of discrimination and health and wellbeing issues.
33. Flexible approach to work patterns and bases and ability to work within and shift based rota system.
34. Ability to respond appropriately in difficult or challenging situations e.g. BSS etc
35. Ability to work effectively as part of the support team and in multidisciplinary settings.
36. Ability to use own initiative and to be self-motivated
37. The ability to engage service users in activities and participation within their home and in the local community.
38. Ability to communicate in an open an approachable manner.
39. An appreciation, acceptance and commitment to the importance of confidentiality
40. Ability to carry out duties that involve personal care of service users.
41. Ability to carry out moving and handling duties in line with health and safety regulation and risk assessment.
42. Ability to support service users with physical activities such as swimming, hydro therapy etc.
43. Must be able to work flexibly to meet the needs and demands of the service
44. The ability to deliver agreed interventions for managing behaviour that causes concern, e.g.
45. BSS,SCIP, CALM etc

Starting Salary: £.30
£16.78 per hour
36.25 hours per week
