The engineering organisation is scaling quickly. As more services are built and usage increases, the platform needs to mature alongside it.
This role is a new hire due to growth, joining a small Site Reliability Engineering function that is expanding from two engineers to four. The goal is simple but not easy: build a secure, reliable platform that allows development teams to move quickly without compromising stability.
Junior Site Reliability Engineer
Southampton | Hybrid (2 days onsite)
Up to £55,000 depending on experience
You are not coming in to “keep the lights on”. You are coming in to help shape how the platform is built and operated as the business grows.
What you will be working on
You will work alongside experienced SREs and developers, contributing to the design, build, and ongoing improvement of the cloud platform that underpins a large-scale eCommerce and logistics system.
Your work will include:
* Building and maintaining cloud infrastructure using Terraform
* Supporting containerised workloads and deployment pipelines
* Improving reliability, security posture, and observability across the platform
* Investigating incidents and learning from them, not firefighting
* Documenting systems and helping establish repeatable best practices
You will be guided and supported, but expected to get hands-on and steadily take ownership of areas of the platform.
What we are looking for
* Hands-on experience with Terraform
* Exposure to cloud platforms
* A practical approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving
* Clear communication and willingness to collaborate across teams
Useful, but not required
* Experience with container platforms or managed Kubernetes
* Observability tooling such as Datadog
* GitOps concepts or CI/CD pipelines
This role suits someone who has moved beyond pure learning and wants to develop depth in platform engineering within a real production environment.
