Obesity can have a debilitating effect on patients mental & physical wellbeing. Patients frequently fail to lose a significant amount of weight without medical & psychological input. This newly developed programme pilots a Renal Weight Loss Clinic as recommended by the Getting It Right First Time report. This will improve health equality by providing improved access to the kidney transplant waiting list &/or bariatric surgery, through focused MDT, psychological interventions & the use of a recommended weight loss drug, Semaglutide. The work undertaken in this 0.8WTE post is part of a transformation programme aimed at improving equity to and quality of renal services, & to support patients undergoing kidney transplantation. We are looking for someone who can a) input into our renal weight loss MDT and clinic, b) support our dialysis programme by ensuring patients receive psychological support to ensure they receive treatments most appropriate for them & c) to work alongside our liver transplant psychologist to offer brief psychological interventions to ward patients. The Trust employs at least 45 applied psychologists/counsellors working in different medical specialties. You will be able to access the support of this professional structure, including regular meetings, training & specialist supervision groups, allowing staff to extend skills alongside colleagues working in different specialisms & with opportunities that can be helpful to their career. Main duties of the job • To provide specialist psychological assessment & treatment on an individual basis as appropriate, and to facilitate a group Weight Management Programme for individuals with obesity prescribed the weight-loss medication Semaglutide (Ozempic) • To contribute to MDT meetings and offer specialist psychological advice and consultation on managing weight loss to non-psychologist colleagues • To contribute to the collection and analysis of outcome data from both individual and group interventions and utilise research skills for audit and research purposes as required • To work closely with the renal frailty MDT to offer advice, guidance and psychological assessment of patients considering maximum conservative management • To work closely with the pre-dialysis team to offer support for patient decision-making around home dialysis • To offer brief psychological interventions to our ward patients under the care of the liver transplant team About us The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UKs biggest and most innovative trusts.
