Job Role & Key Responsibilities:
We are recruiting for a Mechanical Biased Maintenance Engineer to join a busy manufacturing environment on a fixed‑term contract basis. This role will focus on maintaining, repairing, and improving a range of production machinery and site equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and supporting smooth day‑to‑day operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for both reactive and preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, equipment repairs, and supporting engineering activity across a fast‑paced production setting.
Key Responsibilities:
* Carry out reactive and planned maintenance across a wide range of factory machinery and production equipment
* Diagnose and rectify mechanical faults in a timely and effective manner
* Support the smooth running of production lines by minimising downtime
* Maintain accurate electronic work logs and ensure updates are recorded regularly
* Order, chase, and manage required machine parts where needed
* Liaise with external contractors and OEMs when required
* Support handovers between shifts, ensuring clear communication of outstanding work and updates
* Suggest improvements to working practices, equipment reliability, and maintenance processes
* Work safely and efficiently, following company procedures and engineering best practice
* Provide flexibility to support holiday and sickness cover where required
The Ideal Candidate will have:
* NVQ Level 3 in Engineering or equivalent qualification
* Demonstrable experience within a maintenance engineering role
* A strong mechanical skill set, with a broad engineering knowledge base
* Experience working in a manufacturing, production, or similar fast‑paced environment
* Strong fault‑finding, diagnostic, and rectification skills
* Experience working with fine tolerances
* The ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload effectively
* A reliable, flexible, and proactive approach to work
* The confidence to work both independently and as part of a small team
* Flexibility around working hours and shift patterns when required
Desirable Skills:
* Multi‑skilled qualification or conversion training
* HNC in Engineering or equivalent discipline
* Apprentice‑trained background
* Previous experience within print, finishing, binding, or similar production environments
* Experience with specialist production machinery
* Full, clean driving licence and access to own transport
