Mott MacDonald Bentley are recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Anglian Water @One Alliance. As part of Anglian Water’s @one Alliance, we are on a mission to create a sustainable and resilient future for water with an ambitious £2.3 billion capital investment in AMP8, revolutionising infrastructure, sustainability and digital transformation to protect the environment and support growing communities.
What will you be doing?
We’re seeking a knowledgeable and driven Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and technical delivery of mechanical systems across water and water recycling (non‑infrastructure) projects.
* Leading mechanical design activities across a portfolio of projects, from initial feasibility through to detailed design and delivery support.
* Producing and reviewing technical specifications, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards.
* Coordinating closely with project managers, multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and contractors to achieve integrated project outcomes.
* Supporting hazard studies, design reviews, and safety assessments such as HAZOP and HAZCON.
* Driving innovation by adopting digital design tools, promoting offsite construction, and contributing to decarbonisation efforts.
* Providing support during construction and commissioning phases, resolving technical queries and ensuring buildability.
* Offering technical leadership to junior engineers, reviewing their work, and helping them develop their skills.
* Feeding into continuous improvement and technical governance processes, sharing lessons learned and best practice.
Qualifications & Skills
* A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related discipline); Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status desirable or working towards it.
* Strong experience delivering mechanical design within the water, utilities, or infrastructure sectors.
* In‑depth knowledge of mechanical systems, UK design codes, CDM regulations, and health and safety requirements.
* Competence in using CAD and other design tools (e.g., Autodesk Plant 3D or similar).
* A collaborative mindset, with experience working in multidisciplinary environments.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical detail clearly and confidently.
* A problem‑solving approach with a drive to innovate, improve efficiency, and embed sustainable thinking.

This role is employed by Mott MacDonald but involves working across the joint venture business with both Mott MacDonald and JN Bentley colleagues.
