Overview
We are seeking a Senior Lecturer in Pilot Studies to join the School of Engineering at UWE Bristol on a 12-month fixed-term contract at 0.5 FTE, with the possibility of extension or change of contract subject to organisational needs. The role focuses on delivering and developing the Aerospace Engineering with Pilot Studies programme, with a particular emphasis on leading the Level 6 module Pilot and Airline Operations. The successful candidate will prepare final-year students for careers in the aviation industry by delivering high-quality, practice-informed teaching on airline operations, regulatory frameworks, and professional pilot practice.
Responsibilities
* Lead module delivery for the Level 6 Pilot and Airline Operations module.
* Design and deliver engaging, industry-relevant teaching using real-world case studies, scenario-based learning, and, where appropriate, simulations and external guest input.
* Contribute to curriculum enhancement and ensure teaching remains aligned with current aviation practice and evolving industry standards.
* Play a leadership role in module delivery, contribute to programme development, and support colleagues as appropriate.
* Engage in scholarly and/or practice-based activity and develop links with industry partners to enhance student learning and employability.
* Collaborate with colleagues to foster a supportive, inclusive, and collaborative working environment.
Qualifications and Experience
* Typically hold a postgraduate qualification in Aerospace Engineering, Aviation, or a related discipline, or have equivalent professional experience within the aviation sector.
* A background as a commercial pilot (e.g. ATPL or CPL holder), flight instructor, or experience within airline operations or a regulated aviation environment is highly desirable.
* Strong knowledge of airline operations and regulatory frameworks, including familiarity with UK CAA, EASA, or ICAO requirements.
* Experience delivering training (flight instruction, simulator training, or classroom-based teaching) is essential; experience in higher education teaching is advantageous.
* Experience leading modules or structured training programmes and mentoring colleagues; ability to contribute to curriculum development and maintain professional currency with industry developments.

Working Location and Conditions
This post is based at our lively Frenchay campus with access to facilities and resources to support staff and students. The role is campus-based with some opportunity for remote/home working. The position is 12-month fixed-term, part-time at 50% FTE.
