About the role Reporting into Manufacturing Engineering, this role is for a Manufacturing Engineer supporting laser products manufactured in Glasgow. We are seeking an enthusiastic and approachable individual with the ability to work well with others, understand new issues and work alone or in a team to resolve these. Good communication skills are required to effectively record problems being described and to report back issues to the wider team. Lean methodology is practiced at Coherent Scotland and a structured approach to problem solving is used, so experience of using appropriate tools and techniques would be advantageous. However, Lean training is provided for all employees across the company. You will be responsible for the technical support of the product family and will contribute to the smooth running of the manufacturing line from end-to-end including kitting of parts, optical sub-assembly, mechanical pre-assembly, optical alignment, system test, performance reports, packing and shipping of the final product. Responsibilities will include: Contribution to the smooth operation of the line. Contribution to continuous improvement, lean and 5S initiatives in the area. Contribution to cycle time reduction, cost reduction, quality and reliability initiatives. Monitoring first pass yield and reporting issues seen on the line. Generation of corrective actions for problems encountered by production or suppliers. Further developing of improved processes. Designing and purchasing jigs, tooling and fixtures. Defining calibration and maintenance requirements for jigs, tooling and fixtures. Providing training to Production staff as new processes, tools and product variants are introduced. Education and Work Experience: Experience working in an optical or laser manufacturing environment is highly advantageous Experience aligning, optimising and measuring laser parameters is highly advantageous. A degree in physics, optics, lasers or equivalent industrial experience desirable. Computer literate with strong knowledge of MS Excel, Word and Powerpoint. Experience using CAD, reading electronic circuit diagrams, building opto-mechanical assemblies or writing scripts for automated measurements would be advantageous. Experience using ERP systems would be advantageous. Effective communication and interpersonal skills Ability to build proactive working relationships with cross functional teams. Ability to work as part of a team but also confident working with own initiative. Ability to prioritise and manage workload and multiple projects effectively at pace.
