Description Position Title: Prep Assistant Principal, Community Life Department: Prep Reports To: Principal of the Preparatory FLSA Classification: Exempt FTE (Full-Time Equivalent): 100% Schedule of Duties: 11-Month Salary: $130,000- $142,000 annual/salary Position Purpose: Develop, nurture, and build a safe, healthy, inclusive community culture. The Assistant Principal for Community Life role guides the design and implementation of a vibrant, student-centered activities and leadership program to help build an inclusive community culture where the school-wide program’s Catholic identity is grounded in the RSCJ legacy. This position leads the Community Life Team to develop well-coordinated, high-quality co-curricular programming (e.g., programs in the following realms: student activities, student leadership development, health & wellness, creative inquiry, media, robotics, student clubs, off-campus events). Specific Expectations for Prep Faculty & Staff: In addition to regular scope of work, the following duties and responsibilities are expected as part of the faculty/staff workload: chaperoning, community responsibilities, professional development and trainings, classroom substitution, holding office hours, proctoring exams, admission interviews, and attendance of, or participation in, mandatory meetings and/or events (e.g. Director’s Day, Admissions Events, Schools’ annual auction), as required and directed by the direct supervisor. Essential Functions Programs & Policies Collaborate with the principal and the Administrative Team to create coherent student learning experiences and a highly motivating work environment for adults, including coordination of Community Responsibilities, in-service days, and educator meetings. Guides the design and implementation of vibrant student-centered activities and leadership programs. Oversees and collaborates with the Dean of Students office, student discipline policies and practices, and participates in the annual review of relevant policies in school handbooks. Oversees and manages safety realms, e.g., attendance, off-campus events, emergency preparedness efforts, the school nurse/health room, and other operations specific to the high school. Serves on appropriate leadership groups, e.g., Cor Leadership, Cor Unum. Gathers, interprets, and communicates data/findings to evaluate co-curricular programs. Responds to student/parent complaints and facilitates the resolution of concerns regarding student or community life, as appropriate. Participates in long-term institutional planning and the strategic initiatives outlined in the current strategic plan. Stays abreast of current research and trends in education and related fields. Seeks out opportunities (e.g., workshops, conferences), educational materials, and other resources to support individual staff members with specific professional growth needs, as necessary. Proficient and well-versed in the school administrative software (CORE), Bright Arrow (Emergency Alert System), and myEOP (Emergency Operation Procedures) Other duties, as assigned by the Principal. Personnel Management Supervises, observes, and provides direct annual feedback to the Community Life Team that includes Dean(s) of Students, Attendance Manager, School Nurse, Creative Inquiry, SHP Media (TV/Radio), Robotics, Farm and Garden Staff, Robotics, Health & Wellness. Makes recommendations for retention, review, and dismissal of Community Life Team members. Serves on the Preparatory hiring team. Interviews candidates and, as appropriate, observes performance demonstrations for non-teaching positions. Daily & Annual Operations Coordinates with Administrative Team to ensure effective daily operation of the school, including: annual calendar, bell schedules, assemblies/gatherings, orientation, registration, graduation, liturgies, student activities, Spirit Week, Senior Awards, and Educator Community Responsibilities. Oversees all logistics (scheduling, communication, set up for spaces, materials, etc.) for community life programs. Attends, helps plan and execute, and actively participates in annual events to include, but not limited to: Senior Soiree, New Year Orientations (New Students, New Parents, Transfer Students, New Employee Orientations, Winter Formal, Prom, Spirit Week Activities, Admissions Events, Incoming 9th Grade welcome night, Graduation). Communicates regarding co-curricular programming with the full school communitystudents, educators, and families. Coordinates with COO, Safety & Security Manager, P-8 counterpart, and service-providers regarding routine building maintenance, parking, campus security, liaison with Student Food Service, and special projects. Responds to student/parent complaints and facilitates the resolution of concerns regarding student or community life, as appropriate. Manages budget allocations assigned by the Principal and supports directors to make sound fiscal decisions. Oversees Ramp Charges and approves departmental purchases and reimbursements Qualifications BA degree required; advanced graduate study in a relevant field preferred. Experience and demonstrated success in working with youth in co-curricular realms. Strong knowledge base of best practices in student-centered learning experiences and leadership development in youth. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Outstanding written and oral communication in English. Eagerness to engage actively with students, parents, and colleagues. Deep understanding of the challenges, opportunities, and context associated with Sacred Heart Atherton’s mission, its commitment to Sacred Heart Goals & Criteria, and its identity as an independent, Catholic school. Approachable, relational, and responsive way of working with all constituencies. Basic First Aid and CPR certification Physical Requirements and Work Environment Works in a highly stressful environment, dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied/diverse array of contacts. May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time. Be able to lift up to 35 lb occasionally. Must provide a clean and valid CA driver’s license; occasionally required to drive school vehicles to transport students as needed. Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office/classroom environment. Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold. Ability to regularly travel comfortably and safely over the 64-acre campus.
