We are seeking to recruit a highly-motivated Research Assistant to join the David group at the Babraham Institute. The post holder will join a team of scientists studying the mechanisms of healthy ageing with a focus on identifying ways to prevent protein aggregation. The group is embedded within the Signalling Programme which provides a highly collaborative and thriving research environment.
The lab works with the nematode C. elegans and the main techniques used are molecular biology, reverse genetics, biochemistry, proteomics, fluorescence and confocal microscopy. The successful candidate will perform experiments with C. elegans, including RNAi screening, functional assays, advanced microscopy. The role will also involve some standard laboratory tasks (such as purchasing, lab organization) and molecular cloning. We are looking for a self-driven and well-organized individual with the ability to work both in a team and independently. Prior hands-on laboratory experience in molecular biology techniques is essential. Additional experience in advanced microscopy (confocal, CLEM) would be highly desirable. Prior experience with C. elegans is also highly desirable although not essential. The ideal candidate must have a BSc or MSc in biological sciences.
