Tutor:
Location: Rotherham
Hours: 20-25 hours per week (term time only)
Pay: £30-45 per hour, depending on experience
We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and creative tutor to support a 16-year-old boy with ASD and complex needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference by creating a positive, playful, and responsive learning environment. The tutor will work one-to-one with the young person, mainly in a home or therapeutic setting, with opportunities to explore outdoor or sensory-friendly spaces.
The Tutor role:
Based in Rotherham, this part-time tutor role involves delivering a bespoke curriculum focused on life skills and independence. The student is undertaking functional maths and English.
Key Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to facilitate learning
* Build trust and emotional safety by attuning to the young person's pace and preferences
* Use playful, non-directive methods to support engagement
* Travel to Rotherham as needed
* Identify and anticipate sensory and emotional triggers
* Encourage initiation and allow processing time
* Promote emotional regulation through calm and consistent presence
* Plan and adapt a modified curriculum to promote engagement
* Accompany the young person to safe and familiar places that support wellbeing and learning
* Meet with the student and guardians/parents prior to starting tuition
Essential Qualities:
* Calm, emotionally regulated, and reflective
* Experience working with autistic children or children with complex SEN
* Willingness to learn about sensory needs and triggers
* Comfortable using indirect language and creative teaching approaches
* Able to work alongside or slightly behind the child, avoiding confrontation or authority
* QTS or experience as a tutor outside of a school environment
* DBS clearance or willingness to obtain one
