We are looking for a motivated and technically capable Sound Assistant to support the sound department in a busy television studio environment, to include managing the studio’s communications (comms) systems and also studio sound requirements from the floor. The ideal candidate will assist in the setup, operation, and maintenance of audio equipment for live and recorded productions, ensuring clear and reliable communication across all departments and high-quality sound output. This role will primarily entail shift working across the Good Morning Britain programme. There may also be opportunities to work across ITNs other output.
Key Responsibilities
* Set up, test, and maintain microphones, in-ear monitors (IEMs), IFBs, and other audio devices under the guidance of the Sound Supervisor
* Operate and monitor the studio’s communication systems (wired and wireless talkback/headset units) for production crew, presenters and technical staff
* Route and test comms circuits according to the show’s needs, to set up remote guests and reporter
* Assist with mic-ing presenters and guests, ensuring secure, discreet placement and signal integrity
* Carry out sound checks for microphones and comms systems before each recording or live broadcast
* Respond swiftly to any technical issues related to sound or comms during rehearsals and live output
* Support live audio mixing by handling mic cues, radio mic battery checks, and level monitoring
* Keep equipment organized, charged, and maintained, reporting any faults to the Sound Supervisor
* Assist in rigging and de-rigging audio equipment during studio setup and breakdown

Key Requirements
* Previous experience in a studio or live broadcast sound environment (entry-level or internship experience acceptable)
* Basic knowledge of professional audio equipment, including mixing consoles, wireless systems, and comms systems
* Good understanding of audio signal flow and troubleshooting techniques
* Familiarity with health & safety practices related to electrical and RF equipment
* Competence in working with talkback routing, intercom setup, and crew coordination systems
* Strong communication and teamwork skills
* Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure in a live studio environment
* Physically able to move and handle technical equipment as required
* This role will require shift work and out of hours work
