AtCoventry and Rugby GP Alliance we have an exciting opportunity for anexperienced Paramedic with 5 years post qualification experience, to join ourPrimary Care Paramedic team.

The postholder will be an experienced clinician, who working within their scope ofpractice will work as part of the Primary Care Network (PCN) team to provide anautonomous paramedic service, delivering holistic care both in the GP practicesof the PCN and in the community (home visits). The paramedic will provide andmaintain a high standard of care for patients in their ability to provideautonomous assessment, diagnosis, treatment and appropriate referral ofpatients.


Main duties of the job

ThePrimary Care Paramedic will beexpected to be able to work autonomously without direct supervision. Access toa senior clinician to provide support when required is available.

TheParamedic will triage, assess, plan, treat, manage and refer patientsappropriately, as part of a face to face or remote consultation. Performingspecialist health checks, patient investigations, and collection of specimens,as determined by the scope of practice and standard operating procedures.

Takeresponsibility for the overall planning of care for patients. This includesdetermining the most appropriate care pathway, liaising with other services andspecialists, ensuring the patient has the best clinicaloutcome.

Interpretdiagnostic investigations and to take the correctivecourse of action where appropriate.

Tosupply medication under patient group directives where appropriate, and where trainedand permitted as an independent and/or supplementary prescriber.

To workwithin the legislation of the Mental Capacity Act (2005) in respect of consentto examination and treatment and applying best interest decisions whereappropriate.

Be awareof the needs of vulnerable patients interacting with the service and understandprofessional responsibilities for safeguarding adults, children and youngpeople according to national and local policies and procedures.

Adhereto all infection control measures according to internal policy.

Job responsibilities

ThePrimary Care Paramedic will work for a PCN, working within the GP surgeriesthat make up that PCN.

TheParamedic will triage, assess, plan, treat, manage and refer patientsappropriately, as part of a face to face or remote consultation. Performingspecialist health checks, patient investigations, and collection of specimens,as determined by the scope of practice and standard operating procedures.

Takeresponsibility for the overall planning of care for patients. This includesdetermining the most appropriate care pathway, liaising with other services andspecialists, ensuring the patient has the best clinicaloutcome.

Torecognise the need for and initiate where appropriate relevant diagnosticinvestigations.

Interpretdiagnostic investigations and to take the correctivecourse of action where appropriate.

Prioritiseworkload according to the needs of patients, and manage primary care demand for the service based on clinicalneed.

Tomaintain appropriate contemporaneous clinicalrecords, ensuring that documentation clearly demonstrates the relevantStandards and Guidelines for Records and Record keeping within the Health andCare Professions Council and internal policy and procedures.

Tosupply medication under patient group directives where appropriate, and where trainedand permitted as an independent and/or supplementary prescriber.

Ensureprofessional responsibilities are met maintaining knowledge of PGDs, medicines policy and legislation regarding the safe andsecure management of medicines.

To practicewithin the parameters of professional skills and knowledge, to recognise thelimitations of own practice and to work within the bounds of their skills andcompetence according to the Health and Care Professions Council.

Tomaintain an awareness of and shareappropriate developments in clinical practice. Undertaking peer support ofpractice, education and development.

Ensurepractice is evidence based and maintain a record of continuous professionaldevelopment.

To workeffectively as part of a multi professional team in collaboration with othermembers of the service, and across primary care, making referrals asnecessary for patients.

Support the deliveryof anticipatory care plans and take a lead in certain services andcircumstances for patients.

Makedynamic risk assessment of the environment and general situation, having dueregard for the health and safety of patients, self and others.

Advise patients ongeneral healthcare and promote self-management where appropriate, includingsignposting patients to the PCNs social prescribing service, and whereappropriate, other community or voluntary services.

Education Practice Development

To complete theRoadmap of Practice Portfolio for Paramedics in Primary Care, which includesthe requirement to commence a level 7 qualification within six months ofcommencing in post.

Toparticipate in the clinical supervision framework for Practitioners.

To offerappropriate advice to other professions on clinical care, delivery and servicedevelopment within the parameters of the role and scope of practice.

Toparticipate in ongoing individual and peer professional development within theorganisation.

Toundertake the mandatory training programme, and online training as appropriate.


Person Specification


Experience

* Post-registration operational experience, which meets the following: two years consolidated learning as a newly qualified Paramedic, and three years as a Band 6 Paramedic
* Experience of working with other professionals and multidisciplinary teams
* Operational experience of supporting patients with acute symptoms / illness
* Working in primary care settings
* Member of the College of Paramedics


Qualifications

* Registered Paramedic with the HCPC, with no conditions on registration
* Educated to Degree level (BSc) in Paramedicine
* Minor Injury and Minor Illness module as part of BSc or Level 7.
* Demonstrable relevant and ongoing CPD
* Commitment to undertaking a level 7 module or masters qualification as part of employment, and within six months of commencing
* Commitment to complete the competencies required of the Advanced Clinical Practice Framework
* Level 7 Masters Qualification in a clinical area
* Independent Prescribing, as annotated by the HCPC
* Supplementary Prescribing, as annotated by the HCPC
* Formal teaching qualification
* Completed and been signed off formally within the clinical pillar competencies of the Advanced Clinical Practice Framework
