PURPOSE OF JOB
To provide high quality proactive professional legal advice in the area of Contracts and Commissioning law and practice as part of the Shared Legal Service referred to as “Mid Kent Legal Services” (MKLS).
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. To undertake a legal caseload of all aspects of Contracts and Commissioning work as a lawyer within the MKLS Contracts and Commissioning team.
2. To provide high level, effective and timely legal advice to all directorates, elected members, including committees, and to senior managers and staff across the Mid Kent Partner Authorities (Maidstone, Swale & Tunbridge Wells BCs) and to any other MKLS clients in accordance with Lexcel standards and in a way that reflects the MKLS values.
3. To keep abreast of legal developments in the field of Contracts and Commissioning and help to ensure that the MKLS Contracts and Commissioning team operates in accordance with modern good practice.
4. To provide legal supervision to any junior fee earners in the Contracts and Commissioning team as appropriate and work closely with Legal Support Officers to supervise the administrative support they provide on legal transactions.
5. Be committed to the Strategic Plans and policy frameworks of the Partner Authorities.
6. To use and assist others to use information technology systems including the case management system (Iken) and to carry out duties in the most efficient and effective manner.
7. To participate in intra- and inter-departmental working parties and corporate groups across the Partner Authorities.
8. To represent the Partner Authorities as appropriate at external meetings.
9. To communicate with clients at the required level or as a customer-focused role be able to communicate with our customers at the agreed level.
10. To undertake any training and development as required.
11. To comply fully with the Council’s Equal Opportunity Policy.
