If you decide to commence or continue your career with us we will make sure that your professional development is at the forefront of all that you do. All of our junior pharmacists are enrolled on the RPS Foundation pharmacist pathway and, supported by our dedicated junior pharmacist mentors, you will provide ward-based pharmacy services whilst ensuring that you progress against the four pillars of the framework. Formal traininng is provided through regular in-house teaching sessions and enrolling onto a choice of postgraduate diploma in a timeframe of your choice.
We are proud that the majority of our pharmacists are independent prescribers and therefore we will be able to support you with the IP qualification at the time point that it is right for you.
Main duties of the job
All of our Pharmacists spend more than 90% of their time on Medicines Optimisation activities with minimal dispensary commitments. Our pharmacy technicians undertake much of our medicines reconciliation activities on our wards, allowing pharmacists to focus on excellent patient-focused clinical pharmacy.
As a department, we pride ourselves on the quality of the pharmaceutical care we provide for patients. We work at the leading edge of clinical pharmacy practice with our teams winning national recognition for innovative high-quality patient care. The successful candidate(s) will be expected to deliver a high standard of near patient specialist pharmaceutical care to patients. They will support the pharmacy team to deliver governance, and service improvement to their specialist area and will help shape the strategic direction of pharmacy by supporting the development of innovative new services. Experience will also be gained in cancer services and the dispensary.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Participating in the Foundation Level competency framework for Band 6 pharmacists
Providing medicines management, medicines optimisation and medicines reconciliation services to help achieve department priorities and targets on a designated ward or group of wards as decided by the Lead Pharmacist.
Helping integrate role of medicines reconciliation into the existing medicines management framework.
Helping implement local policies and guidelines on good prescribing practice.
