Herne Bay High School is looking for a Head of Year to lead a year group of around 270 students. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone looking for a leadership role that will help students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. This role would be appropriate for a teacher from either the primary or the secondary sector.
What You’ll Do
1. Provide exceptional pastoral leadership, prioritising helping students to feel safe, valued, and supported
2. Deliver exceptionally high-quality lessons in the classroom with a core focus of pupil progress and high expectations
3. Lead, train and support a dedicated team of mentors and support staff
4. Be part of the delivery of our culture curriculum including our values lessons
5. Promote excellent attendance, behaviour, and engagement across the year group through the maintenance of data and its analysis
6. Support vulnerable learners, including those in care, in receipt of the Pupil Premium, with SEND, or requiring additional support
7. Deliver assemblies, year group sessions, and enrichment activities and write high quality resources that will enhance the delivery of the mentor program
8. Build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues
9. Maintain accurate records that demonstrate impact of cultural and behaviour interventions
10. Contribute and adhere to whole-school initiatives and policies
11. Be a fundamental part of the smooth running of the whole school

12. An empathic, caring leader with excellent communication skills
13. A highly effective and exceptional classroom teacher at primary or secondary level
14. A builder of relationships that focus on inspiring young people
15. A champion for inclusive practice, wellbeing, safeguarding, and academic success
16. An organised, resilient practitioner able to manage complex situations effectively and with balance
17. Experience in pastoral leadership is an advantage but not a requirement
18. Subject specialism in English, Technology, Business, Maths or Computing an advantage but not a requirement
