Join our Programme Management Office and support Sheffield City Council’s Capital Delivery Service with the development, governance and delivery of projects to improve the built environment.

Service Support Officer role

We are looking to appoint three Service Support Officers in response to increasing demand.
Duties common to all three roles include:

1. Supporting compliance with standards and protocols for the delivery of projects
2. Maintaining accurate records of project activity, collating project information and updating online databases
3. Arranging regular and ad hoc meetings and managing room bookings
4. Recording, saving and issuing meeting notes
5. Raising invoices

There are also specific duties for each of the three posts:

Post 1: Capital Delivery Service/Operational Boards

6. Project support for the Capital Delivery Service
7. Servicing operational Boards outside the Capital Delivery Service

Post 2: Transport Programme Service

8. Project support for the Transport Programme Service and the newly formed Transport Delivery Hub

Post 3: Finance, resourcing & new commissions in PMO

9. Assisting project monitoring officers with finance queries payment processes, tracking and maintaining financial records and databases.
10. Assisting in the commissioning process for new projects; project resourcing and fee tracking
11. Supporting in the provision of staff continuous professional development (CPD), maintaining the staff skills matrix and arranging CPD sessions
12. Collating and drafting service newsletters and communications


Applicants should demonstrate:

13. Good organisational skills - ability to manage competing demands and to prioritise and manage time effectively
14. Resilience and flexibility
15. Ability to develop good working relationships quickly
16. Substantial experience of the following Microsoft packages: Outlook, Word and Excel

Experience of working with PowerPoint, Visio and Power BI apps is desirable but not essential as training can be provided.

Previous experience of working in a project delivery environment is not essential.

The Capital Delivery Service

Sheffield City Council runs an extensive capital programme worth over £200m a year, covering projects on new and existing sites across the city. Our Capital Delivery Service was created to deliver these projects to the highest standards.

We currently employ over 100 staff in a variety of management, technical, professional and support roles. We operate on a fully traded basis, charging fees to cover our costs.

The Capital Delivery Service includes:

19. Programme Management Office
20. Programme and Project Management
21. Procurement & Cost Management
22. Design Management – Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Structural and Civil Engineering
23. Work Assurance and Project Safety

We manage a very diverse range of projects including:

24. New schools and school expansions
25. New leisure centres
26. Parks, highways, cycle path and foot path improvements
27. Flood alleviation
28. New Council housing and refurbishment
29. Refurbishment and compliance works to Council buildings
