GENERAL COUNSEL – UPSTREAM OIL AND GAS

Role Overview:
Morgan Philips Specialist Recruitment is currently representing a leading independent oil and gas exploration and production company in their search for a General Counsel.
Reporting to the global CEO and being part of the company executive committee, the successful candidate will lead the global legal function and hold overall responsibility for company-wide legal matters.
Key Accountabilities:
* Lead and develop a global team of 10 legal professionals.
* Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements, including joint venture agreements, farm-in/farm-out agreements, drilling contracts, and service agreements.
* Lead the company’s legal risk management strategy, identifying emerging legal issues and advising on proactive solutions.
* Oversee legal due diligence, structuring, and documentation for M&A activities, asset sales, and acquisitions.
* Manage litigation and arbitration matters, working with external counsel as needed.
* Address key legal requirements in areas such as employment law, corporate governance, and company secretarial matters.
* Collaborate closely with company leadership to provide legal counsel on strategic business decisions.
About You:
* A UK-qualified solicitor with substantial post-qualification experience.
* Experience in both reputable law firms and in-house legal departments is preferred.
* Upstream oil and gas experience is essential.
* An ambitious, energetic team player.
* Experience in managing, growing, and developing legal teams.
* A strong educational background with a degree from a reputable university.
