The role will be on our JACIE accredited regional unit that treats acute leukaemia, relapsed/refractory lymphoma patients, Burkitt’s lymphoma and undertakes autologous stem cell transplants. We believe in treating as many patients as possible at home through our ambulatory chemotherapy unit, with plans to develop on-site patient accommodation to facilitate this. We have a strong track record in research and we are high recruiters to many national trials. Teaching is also our passion and involvement in teaching our specialist registrars and junior doctors, as well as medical students via our growing links with the new UCLAN Medical School, is very much encouraged.
Responsibilities
* Complete duties as part of a team of 5 consultants; perform autologous stem cell transplants and manage patients with complex Myeloma, Acute leukaemia and Lymphoma.
* Develop subspecialty interest in Myeloma and contribute to teaching, training and research.
* Respond to 1 in 5 on-call rota and provide on-call support as required within the contract framework (10 PA basic with 1 additional PA for on-call; more PAs may be allocated according to job planning).
* Engage in ambulatory chemotherapy delivery and participate in developing on-site patient accommodation in the future.
* Support to develop subspecialty interest in Myeloma and work collaboratively with a team of experienced colleagues.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Substantive consultant appointment or prospective trainee nearing completion of specialist training in haematology.
* Willingness to contribute to teaching and training of trainees, medical students and junior doctors.
* Ability to work within a JACIE accredited regional haematology unit and participate in research and national trials.
