Assistant Service Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a position as Assistant Service Manager, supporting the Senior Service Manager, within the Ophthalmology department which is part of the Head and Neck Care Group.

This position will be a fantastic opportunity for an aspiring service manager who is motivated, forward-thinking and dynamic


Main duties of the job

Predominantly acting in a deputy capacity to the Senior Service Manager within the division, you will be working under the guidance of the Senior Service Manager, Senior General Manager and Matron. You will be responsible for the delivery of a variety of tasks to assist with the provision of great patient centered care. Your operational management and leadership skills will be developed in this role.

You will be supporting the delivery of performance related work centered on Referral to Treatment compliance, and access to elective surgical services therefore an understanding of clinical delivery of care would be an advantage but not essential. You will have the ability to form effective working relationships and must be a strong team player.

To succeed you must have demonstrable experience of working in a administrative capacity. You should have the ability to cope with a large and varied workload.

No two days will be the same in this interesting role, whilst working under pressure and meeting deadlines; therefore a confident, assertive but yet approachable style is essential.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* NVQ Level II+ in Business Administration or equivalent Diploma in Business Administration or equivalent experience


Experience

* Involvement in implementation of change projects Maintaining a range of information systems Experience of communicating a range of complex or sensitive information Understanding of data quality and performance indicators Prioritising own and others workloads with efficient / effective use of resources
* One year NHS experience in an administration supervisory or operational role Experience of customer services


Skills

* Excellent communications skills within a range of situation Experience in motivating staff and performance management Experience in implementing change Excellent interpersonal and clear leadership responsibilities


Knowledge

* Working knowledge of IT systems and packages
* Knowledge of NHS / Acute Care


OTHER

* Able to work proactively on own initiative with minimal supervision Able to work as part of a team and flexibly / creatively to meet the needs of the service Demonstrable problem solving skills Ability to travel across sites
