Are you a Graduate Structural Engineer qualifying this year or last year, who is looking for a progressive and exciting career opportunity? Are you ambitious to progress in the industry? Do you want to join an established business in Essex and contribute to their growth as part of a team of Engineers and Technicians under the supervision of the Project Manager / Owner? Our client is a Building Design Consultants working mainly in the commercial market with developers and contractors. You are expected to deliver assigned tasks and provide technical support to the delivery of technically challenging designs.
Responsibilities
* Develop your skills and knowledge in technical and management streams through ongoing familiarisation with design standards, codes of practice and design guidance notes.
* Demonstrate the ability to understand technical concepts and gain experience with BDC systems and procedures.
* Participate in the resolution of technical issues and communicate with the Engineering Team, Technicians and Project Manager / Owner on progress against programmes.
* Prepare and collate project-specific documentation; review and self-check your own work.
* Coordinate information with Architects, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, Surveyors and other design team members, including utility companies, building relationships with peers in outside organisations.
* Attend meetings, visit sites when necessary, carry out site investigations, attend site meetings and check progress of work; prepare and assist in site inspection reports where required.
* Develop awareness of programmes and resource planning; manage the production of assigned deliverables to ensure on-time delivery and high quality.
* Prepare and present information to the Engineering Team and other teams within the business.
* Handle project management of smaller tasks and projects as required.
* Undertake complex structural calculations and design proofs using a range of techniques, including handwritten calculations.
* Develop analytical design models using computer packages to assist in the assessment and design of larger scale buildings, including interpretation of output.
* Prepare and collate calculation files with a clear summary of design approach and content.
* Prepare marked-up drawings for reinforcement detailing and review completed reinforcement drawings; review structural drawings and details to reflect design assumptions and calculations.
* Check third-party information for consistency with structural design and drawings/mark-ups.
* Be familiar with and compliant with relevant health and safety and welfare regulations and promote a culture of awareness within the team.
* Pursue ongoing professional development through tasks related to engineering and related subjects, including self-study.
* Work towards Chartered Membership of ICE / IStructE.
Requirements and Benefits
* Office-based, enthusiastic and proficient Graduate Structural Engineer able to support Architects; highly detail-oriented and IT proficient.
* Salary: £28,000 to £35,000 per annum, subject to grades and specific work experience.
* Location: office-based role located on the 1st floor; 5 days a week; 9:00am – 5:30pm.
