Job overview
In a modern healthcare setting, digital systems enable colleagues to provide safe and effective patient care. Clinical Safety Practitioners realise this goal by recognising and mitigating clinical risk to keep care safe and effective.
The Clinical Safety Practitioner secondment will help to ensure that the 999 CAD Replacement Programme implements a safe solution. This is a rare opportunity to work in the emerging field of Clinical Informatics and be involved in a large programme of work.
We are looking for a candidate who is keen to develop, learn and lead in a compassionate and inclusive manner. The candidate will be expected to challenge opinion and advocate for their colleagues and patients.
In return we are seeking to develop the successful candidate in the field of clinical safety. The candidate will have the opportunity to gain complex programme experience. They will be able to learn from and work with a programme team whose members come from a range of diverse career pathways.
As this is a secondment/development opportunity, we would welcome applications from colleagues who are working towards any of the essential criteria they do not currently meet. We are especially interested in applications from Paramedics who are under-represented in this field.
Main duties of the job
The implementation, upgrade or decommissioning of any health IT system has the potential to negatively impact our patients. Information standards (DCB0129 and DCB0160) were created to ensure that the risk of harm is assessed and appropriately mitigated. Within South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) the Clinical Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that DCB0160 compliance activity takes place.
As a key member of the Digital Safety Team, the Clinical Safety Practitioner will ensure that the Trust’s health IT systems do not compromise patient safety. The Clinical Safety Practitioner will manage clinical risk as part of the 999 CAD Replacement Programme.
The Digital Clinical Safety Team supports the Clinical Safety Officer in delivering the organisational Digital Clinical Safety Policy. Within the team, the Clinical Safety Practitioner supports the Clinical Safety Officer to ensure that all organisational health IT systems are safe for our patients. This includes responsibility for carrying out aspects of the clinical safety process as directed by the Clinical Safety Officer - leading clinical safety processes for assigned systems; being a digital clinical safety subject matter expert for their assigned systems and area(s); and representing the pre-hospital digital clinical team internally and externally.
