Optical Assistant
Location:
Zeidan Eyecare Centre, Tamworth
Job Type:
Part-time position, with a minimum of 20 hours and up to 30 hours per week. Additional hours and overtime may be available during busy periods or to provide cover for annual leave and staff absence.
Shift Pattern:
This role follows a variable weekly shift pattern, with working hours scheduled between 8:30am and 5pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 8:30am to 7:00pm on Wednesdays; and 8:30am to 3:00pm on alternate Saturdays. Shifts vary from week to week in line with the needs of the practice and are set four weeks in advance.

The Role
We are looking for a friendly, organised and detail-oriented Optical Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting our optometrists and dispensing team, helping to deliver a seamless and exceptional patient experience from the moment each patient walks through our doors.
Key Responsibilities
* Welcoming patients and managing appointments
* Performing pre-screening tests
(e.g., visual fields, OCT scans, auto-refraction)
- Assisting patients in selecting frames and lenses suited to their needs and prescriptions
- Explaining lens options, coatings, and pricing clearly and confidently
- Processing payments and handling insurance claims where applicable
- Adjusting and repairing frames
- Managing stock and maintaining attractive frame displays
- Ensuring the practice remains clean, organised, and professional at all times
Requirements
* Previous experience in an optical preferred(not essential – full training will be provided to the right candidate)
* Strong communication and customer service skills
* Excellent attention to detail
* Confident using computers and practice management systems(training to be provided on internal systems)
* Ability to work well in a team and in a fast-paced environment
* Professional appearance and manner
Desirable (but not essential)
* Knowledge of lenses and frame styling
* Experience with pre-screening equipment
* Understanding of NHS and private optical services
