Job Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust offers a 1‑year secondment for a skilled neonatal practitioner to lead and inspire clinical education across our Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Responsibilities
* Support and facilitate clinical learning within Neonatal services to enhance quality of care for babies and families.
* Lead multidisciplinary and inter‑departmental learning and simulation activities, including classroom‑based teaching.
* Act as a resource and role model for staff on all aspects of clinical education.
* Oversee learners on QIS foundation and QIS speciality pathways, managing ongoing clinical skill development of existing staff.
* Collaborate with the Lead Educator and other practice educators to implement the education strategy across neonatal services.
* Drive excellence in patient care and contribute to service development and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
* Registered Nurse (Adult or Child) or Registered Midwife qualification
* Specialist Neonatal Qualified in Speciality
* First‑level degree preferable and/or relevant neonatal experience
* Education qualification (e.g. PGCE) would be an advantage
* Evidence of mentor / practice assessor / coaching qualification
* Evidence of supporting learners in a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
* Evidence of ongoing professional development
* Neonatal Life Support qualification
* Experience as a Band 6 specialist neonatal nurse in a tertiary centre
* Experience of undertaking clinical audit in practice would be an advantage
* Knowledge of NMC education standards
* Knowledge of National Standards for Neonatal Qualified in Speciality Nursing
* Ability to be flexible to meet the needs of the team
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
* Professional background such as Registered Nurse, Registered Professional, or Non‑registered support worker
* Highly developed specialist professional knowledge acquired through master’s level education or equivalent experience
* Mentoring/coaching/education qualification to post‑graduate diploma level or equivalent evidence of supporting learners in practice
* Leadership qualification or significant equivalent experience
* Significant experience within the relevant field
* Experience of educating others in a formal or informal setting
Desirable Criteria
* Further education at a master’s degree level in a relevant practice area
* Previous Band 7 experience
* Further evidence of speciality competence
