Overview
A great and friendly place to work. A senior clinical coder who will perform a vital function as part of the Trust's Information and Performance Service to ensure that the clinical coding team functions effectively.
Responsibilities
* Accurately abstract and interpret clinical information from clinical records for both inpatient and outpatient activities.
* Translate clinical information using ICD-10 and OPCS4 classifications and input the data onto the patient administration system.
* Fully conversant with the relevant publications of International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) and Classification of Surgical Operations and Procedures (OPCS4).
* Plan and prioritise own and others workload to ensure that agreed deadlines are met.
* Work with the Clinical Coding Manager to ensure all coding timescales are met.
* Assist the Clinical Coding Manager / Clinical Coding Auditor / Clinical Coding Trainer on preparation of local agreements and coding policies.
* liaise with clinicians to deal with complicated enquiries regarding clinical coding and Escalate on-going coding challenges to the Clinical Coding Manager.
* Communicate effectively with clinicians, nurses, non-clinical staff, and managers both internal and external to the trust on clinical coding issues.
* Work closely with the division and advise on data recording practices to ensure clinical coding accurately reflects care delivered.
* Act as the lead contact with the designated division and associated specialties, working with both clinical and operational managers to resolve coding queries, and communicate complex coding rules and standards.
* Provide internal training and support to junior clinical coding members.
* Participate in regular training to broaden and update coding/leadership skills through specialty workshops and in-house training.
* Maintain own portfolio of evidence.
* Attend regular departmental process for appraisal and personal development, ensuring mandatory training is completed as appropriate.
* Assist in the documentation and management of annual leave and sickness.
* Assist in the maintenance of a team based working environment including the appraisal of junior clinical coding staff.
Qualifications
* National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ) and a minimum of 2 years post qualification coding experience.
* Experience of coding across multiple specialities and the ability to mentor less experienced coders.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Excellent knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
* Ability to work to strict deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy in accordance with national standards and requirements of clinical coding.
* Excellent clinical coding, analytical and organisational skills.
