Health and Safety Advisor (Africa and Asia Area) Location: This role will be based in either Maidenhead (UK)/ Heliopolis (Egypt)/ Nairobi (Kenya) or Delhi (India). If based in the UK, you will be required to work in our Maidenhead office for a minimum of 2 days a week Function Area: Africa and Asia Area (AAA) Contract Type: Permanent Salary: Depending on experience and location Hours: This is a full‑time role, with hours aligned to the working patterns of the country the post is based in. Who we are: The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) is an organisation dedicated to honouring and caring for the graves and memorials of servicemembers who died in the two World Wars. The work of the Commission is not only out on the field, but in our head office too, which contributes to the meaningful commemoration of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. What you'll be doing: In this role, you will lead Health & Safety activity across the Africa and Asia Area (AAA) which covers all of Africa, the Indian sub-continent and Turkey, ensuring compliance with CWGC standards and local legislation. You'll oversee monitoring and inspection plans, analyse performance data, and drive continuous improvement through the AAA H&S Action Plan. Key parts of the role include strengthening incident and near miss reporting, conducting investigations, and addressing root causes. You will deliver regional H&S training, coordinate meetings, maintain accurate documentation, and support a proactive safety culture. Acting as the main contact for external H&S and Occupational Health partners, you will manage hazardous substances assessments, maintain the AAA Asbestos Register and carry out audits and inspections. You will also present performance reports at senior meetings and contribute to strategic decision making. What you need to have: A NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) as a minimum, supported by practical relevant experience in a H&S role TechIOSH (or similar) membership (or working towards), demonstrate ongoing professional development and commitment to IOSH standards Experience applying international health & safety legislation Strong understanding of H&S legislation, regulatory requirements and relevant guidance, ideally within countries across AAA or similar Experience in implementing H&S management systems, conducting audits, and leading incident investigations Proven recent experience in planning and delivering face to face and remote H&S training to site staff and management Strong administrative skills with confident use of Microsoft 365 Excellent written and verbal communication Ability to build effective relationships at all levels, including via remote platforms, such as Teams and Zoom Proven ability to turn objectives into clear and actionable plans High level of discretion and respect for confidentiality Strong organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail Flexible and adaptable, able to work both independently and as part of a team Alignment with CWGC's CARE Values (Commitment, Ambition, Respect and Excellence) Willingness to travel globally, sometimes at short notice A valid passport, full driving license and Right to Work for the country you are based in How to apply: Apply by clicking the 'Apply Now' button.
