A Fertility Nurse Specialist provides expert clinical and administrative support for patients undergoing fertility treatment, ensuring safe, timely, and coordinated care throughout the pathway. The role includes supporting IVF processes such as patient assessments, arranging and reviewing blood tests, swabs, scans, and managing prescriptions to support ovulation and treatment cycles. The nurse acts as a key link between patients, fertility consultants, laboratory services, and external or overseas clinics. They help reduce delays, improve clinic efficiency, and ensure patients receive clear guidance and emotional support throughout their fertility journey.
Main duties of the job
1. Coordinating fertility treatment pathways, including IVF cycles from referral to completion
2. Arranging and tracking blood tests, hormone monitoring, swabs, and other investigations
3. Supporting prescription management, including ovulation induction and cycle medications
4. Booking and coordinating scans, procedures, and clinic appointments
5. Reviewing and actioning fertility-related results in collaboration with the consultant
6. Supporting IVF referrals, eligibility checks, and treatment preparation
7. Liaising with laboratories, pharmacies, and external or overseas fertility providers
8. Providing patient education, advice, and emotional support throughout treatment
9. Ensuring timely communication with patients to reduce delays and missed treatment windows
10. Assisting with clinical administrative workload to free consultant capacity for clinics
11. Maintaining accurate documentation and compliance with fertility governance and protocols

Education, Qualification & Training
Essential criteria
12. BSC/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience
13. Your professional knowledge acquired at degree level will be supplemented by specialist training, experience, and short courses to Masters level equivalent
14. Post-registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or equivalent post qualification experience
15. Leadership Course

17. Extensive experience of working autonomously at an advanced level within the specialist area delivered effective patient focussed care
18. Proven experience of management/leadership skills and autonomous practice
19. Previous experience of student supervision and clinical education at undergraduate level
20. Experience of delivering patient advocacy regulations, consent processes, and NICE guidelines

29. Ultrasound Scanning: Proficiency in transvaginal ultrasound, including follicle tracking (natural and medicated cycles), baseline assessments, and HyCoSy (Hysterosalpingo-contrast-sonography)
30. Ethical & Regulatory Knowledge: Expert understanding of HFEA (Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority)
31. Able to work flexible hours, as the service requires
