Role
We have a great new role for a RAN Transport Designer to join us here at VMO2. This is a specialist design role at the heart of how our radio network connects, scales and evolves. As a RAN Transport Designer, you will shape how radio equipment integrates with Virgin Media O2’s transmission and transport networks, ensuring solutions are robust, scalable and ready for live deployment. You will work across design, test and trial phases, producing high and low level designs and reference configurations, collaborating closely with suppliers, architects, test and operations teams. The role also plays a key part in enabling smooth technology evolution and migration as our RAN and transport networks continue to develop.
Responsibilities
* Produce high level designs, low level designs and low level configurations for radio access networks (RAN).
* Collaborate with suppliers, architects, test and operations teams across design, test and trial phases.
* Ensure solutions are robust, scalable and ready for live deployment within Virgin Media O2’s transmission and transport networks.
* Shape how radio equipment integrates with transmission and transport networks and support evolution and migration of RAN and transport infrastructure.
What we’re looking for (Qualifications)
* Proven experience in a technical network design role within a network operator or equipment supplier environment.
* Familiarity with (and preferably a good working knowledge of) many technical topics relevant to the role, including:
* Strong knowledge of 2G, 4G and 5G RAN architectures, including traditional and virtualised RAN.
* Solid understanding of packet networking fundamentals including Ethernet, IP, QoS and transport protocols.
* Experience producing high level designs, low level designs and low level configurations.
* Ability to work effectively with suppliers, test teams and change control processes.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting complex technical concepts, with strong influencing and persuading ability.
* Knowledge of transport provided synchronisation such as SyncE and PTP.
* Experience working with Ericsson and/or Nokia RAN solutions.
* Exposure to vRAN and O‑RAN architectures.
* Experience supporting lab testing and field trials.
What’s in it for you
Our goal is to celebrate our people, their lives and everything in-between. We aim to create a culture that empowers everyone to bring the best versions of themselves to work each and every day. We believe the most inclusive and diverse culture makes for a better business and a brighter world.
