Overview
Are you an experienced Associate Director or director-level hospital operations professional? Good Hope Hospital is transitioning under University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) and offers a rare 12-month secondment with a potential to become substantive for the right candidate. You will work with the Hospital Executive Director, Director of Nursing and Medical Director to drive the strategic plan and provide leadership across performance, finance, service development, culture, HR and clinical operations.
The role requires a proven track record in leading a team delivering NHS performance and quality standards within tight financial constraints, with the ability to advise at Board level. A significant focus will be on driving performance improvements in urgent and emergency care, elective recovery, and cancer pathways, while leading transformation initiatives.

Main responsibilities
As Hospital Operations Director, you will be accountable for the comprehensive operational performance of Good Hope, ensuring safe, effective patient care and sustainability. You will lead across services to achieve national performance standards in urgent and emergency care, elective recovery and cancer pathways, requiring strategic thinking, leadership and operational expertise.
Your duties include annual capacity and demand planning, managing complex budgets across multiple service areas, and driving transformational change projects that improve patient flow and experience. You will collaborate with clinical service leads and service managers to implement new pathways, resolve operational challenges and embed values of Kind, Connected and Bold in all activities.
You will support leadership through winter pressures in the Emergency Department and lead service improvements that reduce waiting times, translating vision into reality for the communities served.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Master's Degree in a relevant discipline e.g., Business Management/Business Analysis or equivalent experience, or relevant comparable experience.
* Formal management qualification or equivalent experience
* Evidence of ongoing professional development and continuous learning
* Significant experience in operations, finance and people management
Experience
* High level specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and practice
* Extensive knowledge of the NHS with up-to-date knowledge of operational and clinical services
* Experience in a complex healthcare environment and health and care transformation
* Senior leadership experience in a healthcare setting
* Experience supporting at Board level and working with senior committees or boards
* Experience handling complex, sensitive information and monitoring organisational performance
* Awareness of regulatory performance frameworks and their impact on delivery
* Experience delivering results under time/resource pressure and managing budgets
* Experience preparing complex business cases, strategies or documents
