Applications are invited for the above role to provide technical support to a research team dedicated to investigating antimicrobial resistance, virulence and the host response to the human bacterial pathogen Helicobacter pylori. The H. pylori research group is based in the Biodiscovery Institute, University Park and works in partnership with the NIHR Nottingham Digestive Diseases Biomedical Research Centre in the Queen’s Medical Centre.

The role’s responsibilities will include planning and running day-to-day requirements for the laboratories, allocating resources and providing technical supervision and training in the use of equipment and techniques. The role holder will isolate and characterise Helicobacter pylori bacteria from tissue samples, and manage a large sample repository and MS-Access database of information. They will practically contribute to ongoing activities across many methodologies (e.g. antimicrobial sensitivity testing, PCR, cell culture, flow cytometry, ELISA and multiplex cytokine assays) and to the development and troubleshooting of any new techniques to extend the range of methodologies available to the research group.

The role will be responsible for inducting new starters to the group, and ensuring all local users adhere to Health and Safety guidelines and practices. They will write and review risk assessments, standard operating procedures and other relevant paperwork in collaboration with colleagues.

The successful candidate will work in a team with academic and technical staff to support the group in ensuring all purchasing, servicing and equipment repairs are coordinated and managed efficiently.

We are seeking a candidate that adopts a methodical approach to working in order to achieve work deadlines, has good communication skills and an understanding of molecular microbiology, molecular biology and cell culture.

The post is offered on a part time (18.13 hours per week), fixed term contract until 30 November 2027.

Informal enquiries may be addressed Professor Karen Robinson: karen.robinson@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.

Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
