The Role:
This is an exciting opportunity for a trained Embryologist to join our team of highly skilled and dedicated scientists. You will contribute to the clinical workload, train junior embryologists, participate in quality control, donor recruitment and manage gamete/embryo storage and logistics.
Position type: 12‑month fixed‑term contract.
Hours: Full‑time 37.5 hours per week; part‑time possible for the right candidate.
On‑call and weekend working required on a 1:4 rotational basis.
Location
Oxford Fertility clinic, located in a business park on the outskirts of Oxford, serves both NHS and private patients and performs approximately 1,000 fresh and 1,000 frozen cycles per year.
Clinical Skills
* Perform standard embryology andrology procedures (e.g., semen analysis, oocyte collection, ICSI, embryo transfer, cryopreservation).
* Recruit, select, and screen gamete donors following national regulations and company policies.
* Ensure adherence to laboratory SOPs in all procedures.
* Communicate treatment results and options to patients.
* Obtain patient consent and accurately document cycle details in the management system.
* Perform witnessing and traceability in line with regulations.
* Assist in cryostore and gas cylinder maintenance, equipment quality control and lab cleaning.
Quality Management
* Acknowledge and read laboratory documents (SOPs, policies, risk assessments).
* Raise non‑conformities and notify the Lab Manager.
* Participate in quality control and assurance activities.
* Monitor KPI data and personal performance.
* Follow health and safety guidelines and use PPE appropriately.
Resource Management
* Monitor laboratory equipment and stock levels.
Induction, Training & Performance Management
* Assist in training junior staff under the Lab Manager’s guidance.
* Engage in continuous professional development.
Regulatory Compliance
* Adhere to national regulations, professional guidelines and company policies.
* Ensure proper witnessing and traceability of laboratory processes.
* Maintain cryostore and ensure consent in line with regulatory requirements.
* Transport gametes and embryos in accordance with regulations.
* Participate in research projects as needed.
Communication
* Attend lab and clinic meetings as directed by the Lab Manager.
* Ensure effective communication with other departments and the company.
* Participate in patient information events and represent the company at industry conferences.
Confidentiality
* Maintain confidentiality in line with data protection legislation.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
* Degree in Life Science.
* State registered or nationally registered scientist (or eligible to apply).
* Minimum of 3 years clinical experience.
* Full knowledge of embryology practice and related disciplines.
* Full knowledge of prevailing national legislation.
* Experience of performing quality control and participating in quality assurance.
* Competent in ICSI and biopsy.
* Flexible, self‑motivated and resilient.
* High level of attention to detail.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Excellent time management and prioritisation skills.
* Right to work in the country of application.
* Clear criminal record checks.
Desirable
* MSc or PhD in Life Science.
* ESHRE Certificate.
* PGT experience.
