IT Field Technician – Colas Rail UK
Join us to support the company’s IT infrastructure across the UK rail network.
About the Role
The role entails the day‑to‑day support of the company’s IT systems and its users. The role involves prompt resolution of incidents and service requests raised via the ServiceNow help‑desk system remotely or by attending sites. Regular UK‑wide site visits are also expected.
Responsibilities
* Support end users locally and remotely
* Hardware: laptops and desktops
* Printers, plotters, scanners and MFDs
* Mobile devices – smartphones, tablets
* Software – Windows 10, Office 2016, Office 365
* Networking – LAN switches and Wi‑Fi
* Call logging, update and resolution
* Maintain asset records, uploading and emailing delivery notes
* Ensure completion of required forms
* Provide tech‑desk cover when necessary
* Administer Active Directory objects: users, computers, groups etc.
* Perform basic server tasks
* Build/restore laptops, PCs, smartphones and tablets
* Manage smartphones and tablets via MDM
* Install printers and plotters
* Basic network switch administration
* Network patching
* Software server and desktop applications and services
* General monitoring
* Communicate cyber‑security awareness and promptly escape incidents relating to cyber‑security
* Document and regularly update procedures, processes and change management
* Communicate and update unplanned and planned outages to all affected customers and keep relevant groups informed until resolution
* Business continuity testing
* Adapt to organisational changes and meet operational requirements
* Perform any other reasonable duties as required from time to time
* Drive for site visits is essential
Qualifications
* Able to generate innovative solutions in work situations
* Utilise all work‑based opportunities to develop and progress within the job role
* Proven ability to work independently using initiative
* Experience supporting on‑premise, cloud and SaaS‑based IT systems
* Good knowledge of supporting MDM solutions such as AirWatch, Intune etc.
* Knowledge of Active Directory (AD)
* Good understanding of virtual platforms (VMware, Hyper‑V)
* Good understanding of backup technologies (Veeam)
* Experience using ServiceNow
* Experience troubleshooting problems using remote tools
* Experience of IT support in a railway environment is advantageous
* Understanding of network issues and TCP/IP
* Documentation and regular updating of procedures and processes and change management
* Relevant technical certifications desirable
* Experience using and supporting PowerApps based products
* Good documentation skills for regular updating of procedures, processes, change management and project updates
