Post Details – The opportunity has arisen for 2 Rehabilitation Instructors primarily based in the Craft and Design Centre. The individuals will work as part of a team, providing patient care and activity primarily in the area of Arts & Crafts within the setting of a busy activity centre. The successful candidates will be responsible for planning and implementing patients’ programmes within the centre and will assist the patients to engage in a wide range of art and creative based activities that both increases their understanding of the necessary skills and knowledge and provides the opportunity for them to enjoy the therapeutic benefits available. Ideally we are looking for people with core skills and knowledge within the area arts and creative crafts and practical experience gained in delivering these skills to others within a therapeutic/learning or training environment is essential.
The opportunity has also arisen for 2 Rehabilitation Instructors as Activity staff, providing therapeutic activity for patients in wards, hubs, grounds and Skye Centre. The successful candidates will work closely with the Charge Nurse and Senior Rehabilitation Instructor to provide programmes of activity for patients who are not yet ready to engage independently in the mainstream activity sessions. Ideally we are looking for individuals who are self-motivated, compassionate and have confidence engaging with patients in the acute stages of their illness. We are looking for individuals who are happy to work across a range of locations, and with a wide range of clinical team members to meet the needs of the patients they are caring for.
The Skye Centre offers a high quality service that is individually focused and consists of a range of therapeutic, recreational, social, vocational, educational and physical health services for patients. You will collaborate with senior nursing staff, Rehabilitation Instructors, and HCSWs as part of the Skye Centre team. The role involves working independently, in partnership with patients and various clinical teams, to develop, maintain, and deliver high-quality care. This will be achieved through the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care processes while ensuring a safe environment
Experience – Crafts- candidates should have relevant experience or qualification in this area
Activity- candidates should have relevant experience or SVQ in this area.
Candidates will have experience working in a relevant NHS or Third Sector environment and have experience and knowledge of leading groups and motivating patients to participate in chosen activity.

*Starting from 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will be reduced from 37.5 to 37 hours, and part-time staff will get a pro-rata reduction in their working hours without losing any earnings. Although the State Hospital will implement this change, it may not be possible to transition fully from 1 April. Therefore, there may be some areas in the organisation where implementation may take longer. If the department cannot safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week (pro rata for part-time staff) until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety. Of course, you will be remunerated accordingly. The State Hospital is committed to fully implementing the 37-hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so.
