This is an exciting opportunity to join our department as a band 7 pharmacist to develop your clinical, leadership, research and managerial skills. We support our staff to complete a postgraduate diploma and/ or independent prescribing whilst developing the necessary skillset to grow into a senior pharmacist. The post holder will join a team of specialist and generalist clinical pharmacists, medicines optimisation technicians and pharmacy assistants in delivering high quality, safe and effective care to patients and service users. You will undertake ward based clinical pharmacy activities in addition to six monthly specialist rotations. These areas include and are not limited to: medicines safety, pre-assessment, drugs and therapeutic committee, spinal rehabilitation medicine, acute pain, chronic pain clinics, clinical trials and research, metabolic bone disease and rheumatology, homecare, complex long-term bone and soft-tissue infection management as well as post-operative care and high dependency/critical care. This is a full time role entailing 37.5 hours per week and includes weekend and on-call commitment on a rota basis. Main duties of the job We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, forward thinking and pro-active clinically orientated pharmacist to join our progressive team at RNOH. There is extensive scope for the successful applicant to develop on both a personal and professional level through exposure to all departmental activities, contributing towards portfolio building and the opportunity for further roles in the future. The role enables individuals to take on more responsibility whilst starting to build on leadership and management skills to prepare for specialist or senior roles. The post holder will be required to possess good communication and interpersonal skills, be able to work effectively in busy environments both independently and within a team. Computer skills are essential. Ideally, the post holder should have previous NHS experience and be working towards or completed a clinical pharmacy diploma. Other examples of the departments innovation and achievement projects include creation of the medicines safety dashboard and monthly bulletin, pharmacist led opioid deprescribing clinics and contribution to developing national guidelines such as UKCPA & CPOC. Job responsibilities • To contribute to the Trust medicines optimisation agenda to ensure delivery of a safe, clinically and cost effective pharmacy service • To review local policies and guidelines on good prescribing practice • To ensure that service provision is flexible and responsive to patients needs • To be an educational supervisor to pre-registration pharmacists • To mentor and support junior members of staff • To contribute to the education and training programme for all pharmacy and clinical staff • To work closely with the wider MDT in the Trust and provide medicines expertise • To meet the department and Trusts audit agenda and quality improvement objectives • Critical evaluation of medicines expenditure and financial reporting Person Specification Qualifications Essential • Degree in pharmacy (BPharm/MPharm depending on year of qualification), Approved by GPhC • Registration with GPhC • Postgraduate Diploma/MSc in Clinical Pharmacy (or working towards completion in the second year) Desirable • Basic management training • Working towards portfolio development according to RPS framework • Independent prescriber (or working towards qualification) • RPS membership Experience Essential • Minimum 2 years in NHS Hospital Pharmacy • Experience in delivering training • Experience in undertaking audit • Undertaking of out of hours service provision and/or independent working Desirable • Clinical trial work • Working as an Independent Prescriber • Clinical caseload management • Running telephone and in-person clinics for patients Skills • Good communication and interpersonal skills • Good written and spoken English • Good organisational skills Ability to apply knowledge and theory into practice • Effective leadership skills • Ability to effectively prioritise work and meet set targets • Computer literacy • Innovation and motivation of self and others • Able to work as part of a team and as an individual • Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism • Ability to concentrate on complex tasks and being able to cope with frequent interruptions for urgent requests - works well in busy environments.
