Transport Assessor (Part-Time)
County Hall, Leicester £16.89 per hour 18.5 hours per week
About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a Transport Assessor to join a busy Passenger Transport Services team based at County Hall, Leicester. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in ensuring safe, effective and compliant transport services, particularly supporting children and young people, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
You will support the assessment and delivery of transport services, ensuring they meet legislative requirements and provide the best outcomes for service users across Leicestershire.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess eligibility for home-to-school transport in line with council policies, including for children with SEN.
* Communicate assessment outcomes clearly to parents, schools, colleges and internal stakeholders.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, contributing to data collection and service reporting.
* Participate in annual reviews of transport eligibility and assist with re-allocation planning ahead of the academic year.
* Respond to enquiries from parents, schools and other stakeholders regarding eligibility.
* Support the appeals process, including preparing documentation and assisting at panel hearings.
* Complete and review transport risk assessments and develop individual travel plans.
* Work collaboratively to resolve operational transport issues, including site visits to schools and care settings.
* Promote high standards of health & safety and duty of care across transport provision.
* Build strong working relationships with internal teams, external contractors and partner organisations.
About You

* Can interpret policies and apply them to individual cases
* Is confident communicating with a wide range of stakeholders
* Has excellent organisational and record-keeping abilities
* Can manage sensitive information with professionalism and confidentiality
* Has a collaborative approach and can work effectively as part of a team
* Ideally has experience working within transport, education, local government, or SEN services (desirable but not essential)
