Band 3 Liver Surgery Medical Secretary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and organised individual to join our dynamic Hepatobiliary (HPB) team as a Liver Surgery Medical Secretary at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. This role is perfect for someone with strong administrative skills who is passionate about progressing into a medical secretary career within a fast-paced and highly specialised clinical service.
As part of one of the largest and most respected liver centres in the country, you will play a vital role in supporting the smooth and efficient running of the HPB service, ensuring our patients receive exceptional care from referral to treatment.
We are looking for someone with excellent organisational and communication skills, the ability to work in a busy environment while managing competing priorities, who shows initiative, professionalism and a commitment to learning, has strong IT skills with great attention to detail, and ideally brings previous administrative or secretarial experience, with NHS experience being an advantage but not essential.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide high-quality secretarial and administrative support to our Liver Surgery Consultants and wider HPB multidisciplinary team.
2. Manage consultant diaries, organise clinics, theatre lists, and coordinate appointments.
3. Type and process highly confidential clinical correspondence using audio typing and electronic systems.
4. Act as a key point of contact for patients, relatives, and healthcare professionals, offering professional and compassionate communication at all times.
5. Support the tracking and progression of cancer pathways, ensuring patients move efficiently through their clinical journey.
6. Maintain accurate patient records, manage referrals, and update relevant systems.
7. Work closely with the operational and nursing teams to help deliver a responsive and efficient service.

Qualifications
* Good General Education (e.g. GCSE English and Maths A‑C) GCSE Level 9-4
* Business Administration NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience in a clerical environment
* AMSPAR Certificate/equivalent qualification or equivalent knowledge of medical terminology
Experience
* Experience of dealing with the Public/Customer service experience
* Experience of working with a range of Microsoft Office packages (eg. Word, Excel and Outlook)
* Experience of using IT systems
* Experience of working in a busy environment
* Experience of working in Healthcare
