The fixed term nature of these posts reflects a specific service need which is not part of the permanent establishment. It will be based at the Great Western Hospital Swindon (GWH). This is an exciting and unique opportunity for a trainee with an interest in education. The post will be 50% in Post Graduate Medical Education and 50% in Respiratory. The post will also include the opportunity to be involved in the exciting field of simulation. This post would typically suit a ST3.</p><ul><li>ST5 level doctor at start of appointment, such as those wishing to undertake further training in medical education as part of an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) from their Specialist training programme, or alongside training for a LTFT doctor in training.</li></ul><p>To assist the Director Medical Education, Deputy DME and relevant clinical specialty in their educational strategy to design, develop, deliver & evaluate Postgraduate training programmes which encompass essential clinical skills, simulation training, quality improvement work and trainee support.</p><p>Provision of clinical education for postgraduate clinical trainees including simulation and clinical skills for trainees</p><p>To take part in on-going research projects or undertake original work under supervision with the aim of producing peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international meetings in relation to speciality.</p><p>Bedside and classroom teaching of postgraduate trainees in variety of specialties.</p><p>Coordination of post graduate trainees’ teaching opportunities</p><p>Support with inducting resident doctors to the department.</p><p>Supporting Clinical Skills Teaching and ward-based assessment to post graduate trainees.</p><p>Evaluation of teaching in conjunction with the relevant administrator.</p><p>Undertaking any training that is identified as necessary for the candidate to teach effectively.</p><p>Promote and deliver simulation as an effective educational tool.</p><p>Contribute to the organising and delivery of departmental inductions for new resident doctors.</p><p>Promote completion of NTS and NETS within the organisation and encourage resident doctors to complete.</p><p>Support development and running of the IMT local teaching programme and PACES teaching.</p><p>Support IMT resident doctors with clinic attendance</p><p>Arrange the IMT regional training day</p><p>Attend the quarterly Medical Education Committee and provide a report We are proud to be part of BSW Hospitals Group</p><ul><li>a formal partnership between Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust and Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.</li></ul><p>With a combined workforce of over 17, 600 colleagues, and budget of 1.6 billion the Group is united by a common purpose to deliver the best possible care to over 1 million people.</p><p>We are creating a health and care system that works with the people we care for, reducing the differences people currently face in access, experience and outcomes, improving the experience of our colleagues and tackling shared challenges like sustainability and finances.</p><p>Every improvement we make across our Group will be guided by what creates the greatest benefit for our colleagues, our patients, our communities and our partners.</p><p>50% Department of Respiratory 50% postgraduate medical education.</p><p>The successful applicant will undertake the below duties, these are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service and the level of training attained by the candidate.</p><p>Take a history and examine patients.</p><p>Identify and synthesise problems.</p><p>Prescribe safely.</p><p>Keep accurate and relevant medical records.</p><p>Complete discharge summaries in a timely fashion and be responsible for the prescribing of discharge medication.</p><p>Manage time and clinical priorities effectively.</p><p>Take part in relevant clinical procedures.</p><p>Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and colleagues.</p><p>Use evidenced based guidelines and audit to benefit of patient care.</p><p>Clinical and PGME work is not out of hours, but some OOH can be negotiated with appointee.</p><p>Participate in and lead ward rounds on your designated ward (typically 12-16 patients)</p><p>Attend daily board rounds and afternoon “huddles” and engage with ward multi-disciplinary team to plan for safe and timely discharges</p><p>Support and teach junior resident doctors and shadowing medical students attached to your team</p><p>Participate in Departmental Governance activities such as attending Clinical Governance meetings and conducting Mortality & Morbidity reviews</p><p>Attend & present teaching or interesting cases at Departmental teaching sessions and journal club</p><p>Participate in or lead clinically focussed Quality Improvement work benefiting the respiratory wards, patients or staff</p><p>Previous applicants need not to apply.</p><p>Further details can be found in the attached job description.
