Consultant Paediatric General Surgeon

This substantive post follows expansion of the department, converting a locum post to a permanent position. It will join the team of seven paediatric surgical consultants, providing elective and acute general paediatric surgery and serving as one of the surgeons responsible for the paediatric gastrointestinal elective service at Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and its network partners.
Main Duties
* Provide day‑to‑day all‑round surgical care to patients, including participation in a 1 in 6 week attending and on‑call rota and in outreach clinic/theatre rota.
* Deliver day‑case and inpatient operating lists and outpatient paediatric surgery.
* Work collaboratively with paediatricians, neonatologists, radiologists, anaesthetists, gastroenterologists and other specialties.
* Develop regional solutions across medical and surgical specialties for children and young people.
* Participate in teaching at BSMS, including undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
* Contribute to safeguarding, quality, and financial efficiency of services.
* Support development of innovative care models, including advanced nursing roles.
Qualifications and Experience
* oFRCS or recognised equivalent.
* Full and specialist registration with the GMC (or eligibility to register within six months of interview).
* Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Paediatric Surgery or an equivalent if trained outside the UK.
* 5+ years of recent consultant experience.
* Higher degree and teaching qualification.

* Experience in a multi‑professional team setting.
* Knowledge of NHS / clinical governance / resource constraints.
* Understanding of equalities issues and evidence of development work.
Research and Academic Involvement
* Evidence of audit participation.
* Research experience and publications.
* Contribution to peer‑reviewed journals, conferences.
