Role Overview
The Senior Design Engineer will take ownership of design activities across a range of projects, ensuring solutions meet technical, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. The role involves participation in design reviews, close collaboration with cross-functional teams, and providing mentorship to junior engineers. You’ll help ensure that all outputs are robust, manufacturable, and aligned with customer and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities

Lead design and development work from initial concept through to production and post-production support.

Ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory, and quality standards.

Produce and maintain drawings, specifications, and documentation in line with relevant standards (e.g., BS8888, DEF STAN 05-10).

Review and sign off engineering documentation as part of the design approval process.
*
Participate in and contribute to design reviews.
*
Work collaboratively with analysis, manufacturing, integration, safety, and trials teams.
*
Support the preparation of technical publications and deliverable documents.
*
Mentor and guide junior engineers to support their development.
*
Process engineering change requests and concessions in line with internal procedures.
*
Contribute to continuous improvement and optimisation of design processes.
What We’re Looking For
*
Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a similar engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).
*
Proven design engineering experience within a regulated sector (aerospace, defence, medical devices, etc.).
*
Strong CAD capability (SolidWorks preferred but not essential).
*
Excellent problem-solving skills and strong communication abilities.
*
A motivated, conscientious individual with leadership potential.
