Job overview
The Specialty Doctor will play an integral part of the day to day running of the Breast Unit. This post will be based at the Royal Marsden Hospital Chelsea site (5 days). There will be flexibility in this arrangement to account for leave requirements of other members of the team.
The working week will involve attending outpatient clinics (4 half days per week). The Specialty Doctor will be asked to cover the Breast Unit specialist registrar when they are on the Institute of Cancer Research course or study/annual leave. This is a well-supported post within a large team.
Main duties of the job
The Specialty Doctor will also be expected to take part in our clinical research programme, including involvement in the management of multi-centre phase II/III studies. The fellow will also have the opportunity to work on audits and service evaluation and to engage with teaching activities.
This post provides specialised postgraduate training in medical and multidisciplinary aspects of the treatment of breast tumours, exposing the Specialty Doctor to a wide range of clinical problems and current clinical research. Within the Royal Marsden/Institute of Cancer Research there is a strong emphasis on post graduate teaching. In-house meetings involve lectures, seminars, formal journal clubs and tutorials in both clinical and laboratory medicine, the latter often in association with the Institute of Cancer Research.

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
